Ditegaskannya bahwa kedepan tindakan serupa tidak terulang lagi. Ia meminta agar semua pihak dapat menghormati kerja jurnalis di lapangan. Ia menghimbau agar seluruh jurnalis turut menjalankan tugas secara profesional.
“Sesuai dengan kode etik dan UU Pers. Ini jadi pelajaran, bila jurnalis mendapatkan kasus serupa agar segera melapor ke polisi. Sebab, jurnalis untuk memenuhi kepentingan publik,” ujarnya.
Sekretaris PFI Medan, Arifin Al Alamudi menambahkan kasus Rakes dapat jard peringatan bagi pihak manapun agar tidak sepele terhadap kerja jurnalis. “Bagi rekan jurnalis harus ingat pula di lapangan sebaiknya membawa kartu identitas sebagai penanda,” ucapnya.
Ketua Pengda IJTI Sumut, Tuti Alawiyah Lubis menambahkan, aparat penegak hukum juga harus memahami implementasi Pasal 18 UU No 40 tahun 1999 tentang Pers. Sehingga, ketika terjadi kasus serupa kepolisian dimana pun dapat memproses laporan yang dilayangkan korban.
Sebelumnya, majelis hakim PN Medan memvonis terdakwa Rakes dengan hukuman 1 tahun penjara.
