Medan, INVOCAVIT.COM: Uji Kompetensi Wartawan (UKW) Persatuan Wartawan Indonesia (PWI) Sumatera Utara (Sumut) akan digelar pada tanggal 24,25, dan 26 November 2025 di Hotel Madani Medan.
UKW kali ini merupakan pertarungan para “bintang” untuk mencapai kompetensi ditingkat Utama, diantaranya Ketua PWI Asahan, Plt Ketua dan Sekretaris PWI Tanjungbalai, Sekretaris PWI Pematangsiantar, Ketua PWI Binjai, pengurus teras PWI Serdangbedagai, dan Langkat, juga sejumlah pengurus PWI Sumut.
Ketua PWI Sumut, H Farianda Putra Sinik, Jumat (14/11/2025) didampingi Sekretaris SR Hamonangan Panggabean, dan Wakil Ketua Bidang Pendidikan, Sugiatmo, mengatakan, UKW ini digelar sebagai upaya untuk peningkatan profesionalitas para wartawan di Sumut.
Pada tahun 2025 ini UKW akan diikuti 60 orang dibagi menjadi 10 kelas dengan rincian, 3 kelas untuk tingkat muda, 4 kelas untuk tingkat madya dan 3 kelas untuk tingkat utama.
Diakui Farianda, sejak masa pendaftaran antusias wartawan di Sumut cukup tinggi untuk mengikuti UKW. Bahkan ada pendaftar dari Aceh.
“Jumlah pendaftar membludak hingga membuat panitia kerja keras dengan sistem proporsional dan prioritas,” ujar Farianda.
Pada kesempatan itu Farianda menyampaikan permohonan maaf kepada calon peserta yang tidak terakomodir untuk mengikuti UKW tahun ini.
“Saya akan terus berupaya bagaimana wartawan di Sumut ini seluruhnya kompeten dengan cara mengajak mitra yang serius untuk meningkatkan kapasitas, kapabelitas dan kualitas wartawan,” ujar Farianda.
Sementara Wakil Ketua Bidang Pendidikan sebagai penanggungjawab pelaksanaan UKW, Sugiatmo menambahkan, direncanakan sebelum UKW akan digelar Pra-UKW sebagai upaya untuk memberikan bekal pemahaman kepada calon peserta.
“Jadi pada tanggal 24 dijadwalkan pra-UKW dan pada 25 hingga 26 November pelaksanaan UKW,”.
Dijelaskan, ada perubahan dan penambahan matauji untuk UKW kali ini diantaranya adalah tentang media siber. karenanya penting diberikan pembekalan kepada calon peserta.
Dilaporkan, berkas pendaftaran calon peserta UKW mendekati angka 200 orang. Sementara kuota yang tersedia hanya 60 orang.
“Tentu banyak yang kecewa karena tidak mendapatkan kesempatan untuk mengikuti UKW. Karenanya selaku penanggungjawab pelaksanaan UKW di Sumut menyampaikan permohonan maaf kepada para wartawan yang belum mendapatkan kesempatan,” ujar Sugiatmo.
Sugiatmo juga mengajak kepada calon peserta yang lolos verifikasi serius mengikuti UKW mengingat banyaknya peminat untuk mencapai kompeten sebagai wartawan.
Ditambahkan, selain PWI Sumut, UKW juga akan digelar PWI Bonapasogit pada 28-29 November, selanjutnya PWI Langkat pada awal Desember.***
