PT Asuransi Jiwa Generali Indonesia (Generali Indonesia) gelar donor darah serempak di 16 titik di belasan kota di Indonesia, yang bekerja sama dengan PMI (Palang Merah Indonesia), Sabtu (16/8), diantaranya Jakarta, Tangerang, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Jayapura, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Medan, Malang, dan Cirebon.
Kegiatan donor darah ini merupakan bagian dari rangkaian ulang tahun ke-16 Generali Indonesia untuk saling membantu sesama bagi yang membutuhkan transfusi dan upaya perusahaan untuk mengajak masyarakat lebih sehat. Inisiatif ini melibatkan hampir 2.000 pendonor dan relawan.
Di kawasan Medan sendiri, kegiatan donor darah diselenggarakan di Kantor Pemasaran Generali Indonesia AG- Medan Galaxy di Komplek Multatuli Indah Blok CC No. 25 – 28, Medan, Sumatera Utara yang diikuti oleh ratusan pendonor mulai dari tenaga pemasar, nasabah hingga masyarakat sekitar.
Dalam siaran persnya, Jutany Japit selaku Direktur dan Chief Operation Officer mengungkapkan, “Kami bersyukur sudah 16 tahun Generali Indonesia hadir melindungi hingga lebih dari 400.000 nasabah,”.

PT.Generali mencatat, dari data Kementerian Kesehatan RI, ketersediaan darah untuk donor secara ideal adalah 2,5 persen dari jumlah penduduk sehingga di Indonesia dibutuhkan darah sebanyak 4,9 juta kantong darah, dimana setiap 1 kantong darah bisa menyelamatkan 3 nyawa.
Selain itu, penelitian berjudul Cardiovascular risk in 159 934 frequent blood donors while addressing the healthy donor effect, yang terbit pada BMJ Journal menemukan bahwa wanita yang secara rutin mendonorkan darah akan lebih terlindungi secara jangka panjang terhadap penyakit kardiovaskular karena melancarkan aliran darah hingga mencegah penyumbatan arteri sehingga mampu menurunkan risiko serangan jantung hingga 88 persen.
