BALIGE, INVOCAVIT.COM – Pjs Bupati Toba, Dr. Agustinus Panjaitan, menyampaikan keprihatinan mendalam atas tingginya angka kecelakaan lalu lintas di Kabupaten Toba, terutama di kalangan usia muda dan produktif. Hal ini disampaikannya di hadapan ratusan pelajar SMP pada acara sosialisasi keselamatan berlalu lintas di Aula Santo Ephraem, Sekolah Swasta Bintang Timur Balige, Jumat (25/10/2024).
“Di Indonesia, setiap jam ada tiga orang meninggal akibat kecelakaan lalu lintas. Di Kabupaten Toba sendiri, empat hingga lima orang meninggal setiap hari, dan 80 persen dari korban didominasi usia produktif,” ungkap Dr. Agustinus. Menurutnya, tingginya angka korban dari usia produktif ini adalah kerugian besar bagi masyarakat karena usia tersebut merupakan tulang punggung pembangunan.
Dr. Agustinus menyebut, banyak masyarakat yang masih kurang memahami risiko di jalan raya. “Banyak orang tua yang belum sadar risiko di jalan. Sosialisasi seperti ini penting untuk mendidik kita semua akan pentingnya keselamatan,” tegasnya.
Dr. Agustinus juga menekankan perlunya peran guru agar kampanye ini dapat terus berlanjut di lingkungan sekolah. Ia mengingatkan siswa untuk selalu berhati-hati, baik saat dibonceng orang tua maupun berkendara sendiri. “Ingat, kepala kalian itu ibarat otak komputer. Kalau sampai terganggu, seluruh sistem hidup bisa terancam,” pesannya.
Pada kesempatan itu, Dr. Agustinus sempat berdialog langsung dengan Marvel Simangunsong, salah satu siswa SMP, yang mengaku sering berangkat sekolah dengan motor meski belum cukup umur. Mendengar ini, Agustinus mengingatkan bahaya mengendarai motor di usia muda, terutama risiko kecelakaan yang bisa berdampak pada masa depan.
Sosialisasi yang dihadiri pelajar dari SMP Negeri 1 Balige, SMP Negeri 2 Balige, SMP Negeri Tampahan, dan SMP Budhi Dharma Balige ini mendapat dukungan penuh dari para guru yang mendampingi. Usner Manik, salah satu guru, mengapresiasi inisiatif Dishub Sumut dan para Kepala OPD dalam menyelenggarakan kegiatan ini. “Program ini sangat bermanfaat, terutama untuk pelajar yang setiap hari menggunakan jalan raya. Semoga kegiatan seperti ini terus berlanjut,” ujarnya.
Sosialisasi ini juga melibatkan Satuan Lalu Lintas (Satlantas) Polres Toba, Jasa Raharja, dan Kepala Organisasi Perangkat Daerah (OPD) di lingkungan Pemkab Toba sebagai narasumber. “Kami berharap, melalui sosialisasi ini, anak-anak kami, para pelajar di Kabupaten Toba semakin paham pentingnya mematuhi aturan lalu lintas dan bisa menjadi pelopor keselamatan di lingkungan masing-masing.
