Balige, Invocavit.com – Menguasai bahasa Inggris menjadi keharusan di era globalisasi ini. Hal itu kembali ditekankan oleh Pjs Bupati Toba, Dr. Agustinus Panjaitan, saat menghadiri Lomba Pidato Berbahasa Inggris yang diadakan oleh Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Toba yang digelar di Gedung Remaja, Soposurung, Balige.
Ajang ini diikuti oleh 38 siswa setingkat SD dan SMP se-Kecamatan Balige. Lomba dilaksanakan selama dua hari, Senin (7/10) dan Selasa (8/10). Pjs Bupati Toba mengapresiasi tinggi kegiatan yang menggali bakat/talenta anak-anak Toba ini.
“(Lomba pidato-red) ini event yang bagus sekali Saya sangat mendukung agar kegiatan seperti ini dilanjutkan terus,” ungkap Agustinus dengan antusias.
Menurutnya, kompetisi ini tidak hanya menggali bakat siswa, tetapi juga mempersiapkan mereka menghadapi tantangan global. “Harus berkelanjutan. Ini akan membawa kebanggaan luar biasa bagi anak-anak kita,” tegasnya.
Lebih lanjut, Agustinus memberikan tips praktis untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris. Ia menyarankan agar siswa membiasakan diri berbicara bahasa Inggris dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. “Mungkin ada yang menganggap kita sombong, tapi itu cara terbaik untuk belajar. Harus dibiasakan (bicara bahasa Inggris-red) setiap hari,” katanya, memberi dorongan kepada para siswa untuk percaya diri.
Kecakapan berbahasa Inggris, menurut Agustinus, tidak hanya penting dalam menghadapi tantangan globalisasi, tetapi juga mujarab mendongkrak rasa percayaan diri anak-anak. “Bahasa Inggris adalah kunci penting di era globalisasi. Saya bangga dengan kegiatan ini, dan berharap bisa diadakan berkali-kali, bukan hanya sekali,” tambahnya.
Dalam kesempatan tersebut, Kepala Dinas Perpustakaan dan Arsip, Togap Hasoloan Sitorus, menegaskan bahwa tujuan utama lomba ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbahasa Inggris serta memupuk keberanian berbicara di depan umum.
Dalam kategori SMP, Regina Maria Nauli Siahaan dari SMP Budhi Dharma Balige tampil sebagai juara 1 mengungguli seluruh peserta, disusul Agatha Ester F. Simanjuntak di posisi kedua, dan Jordania Siagian di peringkat ketiga. Kemudian, Juara Harapan 3 diraih oleh Yakob F. Hutapea dari SMP Negeri 3 Tambunan, Juara Harapan 2 Ratna Syfa Simamora dari SMP MTS Negeri Balige, Juara Harapan 1 Cahaya Kirana Lontoh dari SMP Negeri 1 Balige.Para pemenang menerima sertifikat dan uang pembinaan, sementara seluruh peserta diberikan sertifikat partisipasi.
