Pada pertandingan ini, Shin Tae-yong menurunkan tiga debutan baru, yaitu Ahmad Maulana Syarif, Mikael Alfredo Tata, dan Rivaldo Pakpahan. Cahya Supriadi sebagai kiper dan trio bek tengah Muhammad Ferarri, Kadek Arel, dan Dony Tri Pamungkas kembali bermain bersama di belakang.

Dua pemain senior, Rafael Struick dan Pratama Arhan duduk di bangku cadangan, sedangkan Asnawi Mangkualam memainkan laga pertamanya sebagai starter pada pertandingan ini.

Secara keseluruhan, pada laga ini skuad muda Indonesia di sebelas pertama mempunyai rata-rata umur 21,2 tahun, sedangkan di sisi tuan rumah, mereka menurunkan pemain-pemain berpengalaman dengan rata-rata usia 28 tahun.

Pada menit ke-39, Shin melakukan pergantian pemain. Ia memasukkan Rafael Struick dan menarik keluar Rivaldo yang terlihat ada masalah dengan kakinya.

Di lima menit terakhir, tepatnya pada menit ke-41, Vietnam kembali memberikan ancaman melalui situasi yang sama, yaitu tendangan sudut, yang juga masih diamankan dengan baik oleh Cahya.

Memasuki babak kedua, Shin kembali melakukan pergantian pemain dengan memasukkan Pratama Arhan dan Victor Dethan untuk menggantikan Mikael Tata dan Hokky Caraka. Arhan mengisi posisi bek kiri, sementara Dethan mengisi area penyerangan menemani Struick.

Namun, saat akan memberikan umpan kepada rekannya yang dalam posisi lebih menguntungkan, umpannya berhasil dihalau oleh bek tim berjuluk The Golden Stars tersebut.

Asik menyerang, gawang Indonesia malah jebol pada menit ke-77. Aktor utama gol ini adalah sang kapten Quang Hai Nguyen melalui tembakan kaki kiri kerasnya yang gagal dihalau oleh Cahya.

Pada menit ke-86, Quang Hai hampir lagi menjebol gawang Indonesia. Namun, kali ini usahanya digagalkan oleh Cahya. Satu menit kemudian, Vietnam kembali mendapat peluang melalui tembakan pemain mereka yang masih tipis di atas mistar gawang.

Tak ada gol tambahan hingga wasit meniup peluit panjang. Vietnam mendapatkan kemenangan keduanya pada hari ini sekaligus memutus tiga kekalahan beruntun dari Indonesia pada 2024.

Sementara untuk Indonesia, ini menjadi kekalahan pertama setelah satu kali menang dan satu kali imbang pada dua laga sebelumnya. Kekalahan ini membuat mereka berada di posisi kedua dengan empat poin, tertinggal dua poin dari Vietnam di posisi puncak.
