Pelantikan Guru Besar Fakultas Hukum menjadi Rektor Unika Santo Thomas itu dilakukan oleh Ketua Yayasan Santo Thomas Anton Tampubolon di Gedung Convention Hall Bina Media Medan Jalan Setia Budi Nomor 479-I, Tanjung Sari Medan.
Acara pelantikan tersebut diawali dengan pembacaan surat keputusan Yayasan Santo Thomas tentang pemberhentian Pastor Godlif Sianipar sebagai Pelaksana Tugas Rektor, sekaligus pengangkatan Rektor Universitas Katolik Santo Thomas Medan Prof Dr Maidin Gultom dan dilanjutkan dengan pembacaan Pakta Integritas.
Ketua Yayasan Santo Thomas Anton Tampubolon dalam sambutannya mengatakan bahwa estafet kepemimpinan dalam suatu organisasi termasuk lembaga Perguruan Tinggi adalah meneruskan cita-cita pembangunan berkelanjutan yang telah diamanatkan oleh para pendahulu termasuk pendiri yaitu Mgr Pius Datubara, OFM Cap pada tahun 1984.
“Cita-cita mulia yang dititipkan kepada segenap pengelola Universitas Katolik Santo Thomas adalah membentuk manusia unggul yang akan disumbangkan kepada Negara dan Gereja,” ujarnya.
Dia menyampaikan, proses pembentukan manusia dari sisi karakter jatidiri dan sisi akademis adalah merupakan tugas pengabdian dari para pengelola.
“Yang pertama Perwujudan Jatidiri Katolik pada seluruh sendi kehidupan Universitas Katolik Santo Thomas, Perencanaan pembangunan Sumber Daya Manusia, Peta jalan menuju Universitas Unggul, Pembangunan Sarana dan Prasarana kampus, Pembangunan SDM Mahasiswa dan peningkatan jumlah mahasiswa yang diterima di Universitas Katolik Santo Thomas,” katanya.
Rektor Unika Santo Thomas Prof Dr Maidin Gultom mengatakan bahwa pelaksanaan program Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi harus dilakukan oleh pihak-pihak yang unggul agar menghasilkan lulusan yang Unggul
“Jadi kita didalam melaksanakan program Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi itu tentunya harus di dukung oleh kwalitas saran dan prasarana termasuk SDM nya yang berkualitas, itu akan menghasilkan para alumnus atau output yang berkualitas,” katanya.
Selain itu, dirinya juga akan melaksanakan hal-hal yang menjadi prioritasnya, yaitu membina hubungan yang baik di dalam universitas kemudian juga membangun hubungan dengan para Stakeholder.
“Hal-hal prioritasnya adalah kita akan memperbaiki yang didalam dulu, kemudian nanti kita akan membina hubungan dengan stakeholder, kita akan melakukan kerjasama-kerjasama termasuk kepada pihak-pihak industri karena sekarang Universitas itu tidak bisa lepas dari Industri,” pungkasnya. ™.
